Low code

Develop yourself without programming skills!

Low code development describes the possibility of simple programming based on functional blocks, without traditional programming skills. A block of functions can perform various functions or tasks. As an example, sending an email can be given. Functional blocks are pre-implemented building blocks that can be used directly by clicking on a mouse.

State of play

Low Code Applications enable programming ladies to develop programmes using visual, model-based methods. As an example, it is therefore possible for users to develop a programme-based solution directly themselves. Many smaller companies with low IT skills can also open new ways to low code applications. Experienced IT specialists can also benefit from low code applications. Shorter development times and better communication with colleagues and other stakeholders are classic advantages of low code.

The number of low code providers and their possible application fields is constantly increasing. Tasks such as process modelling, data processing, app development, RPA implementation, chatbot implementation and AI solutions can already be performed with low code.

Technology and deployment

Description of technology

The low code platforms provide the user with the possibility to develop the desired program through pre-implemented software blocks, so-called functional blocks, via ‘Drag &Drop’. A functional block carries out various actions, such as reading data or sending an email. In doing so, the user can build his program visually and methodologically without having to use text-based programming languages. Nevertheless, most low code platforms offer the possibility to extend the ranges possible with low code by text-based programming language. This makes it possible to extend the boundaries of the platforms. It should be noted that low code is used in a wide range of areas and therefore the level of complexity and the level of prior knowledge required also vary considerably. For example, a low code-based website can be created relatively easily without much prior knowledge. However, creating a data processing program with integrated artificial intelligence requires understanding of the domains. If the steps to be taken are known, clicking on the solution is again relatively easy.
