About the project

Project objectives

The project focuses on the development of an interactive, web-based training offer that promotes the active involvement of students in the learning packages of the MultiScript Publisher. The aim is to prepare media packages in a varied and motivating way so that young people are effectively and sustainably involved in the learning process.

Starting position

The MultiScript publisher develops innovative media packages of classical literature, such as Goethes Faust or readings ‘Emilia Galotti’, to make it easier for students to access these often demanding works. The productions are aimed at media centres across Germany that share the digital web-DVDs with Gymnasis. Media packages combine recordings of scenery, interviews with directors and academics, as well as complementary materials such as audiobooks, films and transcriptions. These multimedia approaches allow for a time-based classification and a more in-depth examination of the literature. The aim is to present the classics, which are often perceived as ‘big’, appealing and understandable in order to make them more accessible and relevant to today’s students.

Education

Webbased Training is new to me, EDIH has shown different possibilities and different types of tasks in our online meetings. The EDIH has also created an attractive and up-to-date design with a well-structured and conspicuous surface. With the new combination of text, film, audio and interactive elements, I expect more lively learning content – appealing and learning with all sensesR.

Approach

EDIH Saarland supported MultiScript in the development of interactive training for “Nathane of the Way”. The focus was on developing course content and piloting web-based training. The process started with a first contact and advice to identify the requirements of MultiScript, followed by expert advice focusing on the existing media packages and their distribution channels. The business processes were then evaluated, including the design and organisation of teaching materials and quality assurance processes. A feasibility study then examined the digital restructuring of content in web-based training formats, tested the mobile use of the materials and analysed a possible extension to animated videos and other complementary content. In the last step, the prototypic reorganisation of the existing ‘Nathane of the Way’ media package took the form of web-based training. The aim was to reduce existing media failures, integrate interactive elements such as testing and scenario tasks, and divide the content into smaller, clearer units. The prototype was finalised in June 2024 and serves as a template for the revision of the other existing multiScript media packages.

Result of the project

The Saarland EDIH developed a prototype of the “Nathan der Weise” media package for MultiScript between March and June 2024. As part of the implementation, existing content was restructured and additional content created. Furthermore, audio files, appropriate interactions and learning controls have been developed and appropriate interactions and learning outcomes controls have been designed and implemented for the existing content. When implementing the content, attention was also paid to the possibility of responsive use on different terminal equipment in order to provide the most accessible solution possible. In addition, MultiScript has been provided with the necessary tools and knowledge to be able to redesign other media packages autonomously. This will ensure that the content remains as attractive as possible for students and customers. The new media packages reduce complexity, enable individual learning, promote self-regulation and facilitate understanding of complex texts. This makes learning more attractive and effective for all students. Pupils with language and/or cognitive limitations in particular benefit, so the new media packages contribute to greater equal opportunities for students across Germany.

Main lessons learned from the project

Uncover hidden innovation potential

Many companies do not recognise the full potential of their processes and products. Expert short evaluations help to identify hidden opportunities and implement optimisations.

Sustainability is of great importance

Sustainable action is essential to ensure not only current but also future quality, such as the success of: MultiScript shows.

Large impact of small investments

Already low levels of investment, such as multiScript, can make significant improvements and provide significant support to businesses in digital restructuring.
