About the project

Project objectives

The planned 3PQ Companion project aims to develop an AI-enabled assistance system that provides relevant information quickly, accurately and in the desired language. The aim is to create a smart reference and assistance system for medium-sized industrial companies in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), which:

  • Manufacturer-specific product literature efficiently searched & structured
  • Making product knowledge targeted – for customers & staff
  • AI-enabled advice reduces misdecisions
  • Language barriers overcome & worldwide 24/7

By using state-of-the-art AI technologies such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) & Large Language Models, the 3PQ Companion aims to provide a safe, accurate & intuitive solution for the use of digital knowledge. For security, knowledge is hosted in Europe and dedicated security mechanisms are put in place to protect knowledge from misuse.

Starting position

Skills shortages and loss of knowledge as major challenges

The amount of information available is growing rapidly, but the targeting of relevant content is becoming increasingly difficult, especially in industry. Specialist expert*INNENs are rar and often faced with the challenge of curating knowledge; currently to hold and multilingual to be provided. At the same time, company data are often available in:Data silos scattered, so relevant information only difficult to find. Traditional search engines come to their limits as they lack the expertise to understand the relevance of product information to be determined.. This creates inefficiencies in information gathering, which in turn leads to:Misdecisions, increased time and potential costs due to wrong product selectionleads The 3PQ Companion project has been developed in response to these problems. It is mainly aimed at medium-sized industrial companies in the DACH area, which work with large volumes of multilingual and complex product documentation (such as brochures, guides and catalogues).

Approach

Analysis and selection of an appropriate knowledge management system

In June 2024, a first consultation on funding opportunities took place with the Saarland EDIH, where the 4PACE product range was presented and potentially eligible innovations were discussed. On the basis of these discussions, an assessment of the funding possibilities was carried out and the decision was taken on the support of the Central Technology Programme Saar (ZTS). The framework for funding was then clarified and the appropriate innovation project selected. With the support of the Saarland EDIH, the pre-funding request was prepared and submitted in December 2024. It received a positive assessment in 2025, following which the formal application for support was submitted and finally approved by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy in 2025.

Information on the selected funding programme: Saar Central Technology Programme

The ‘Sar Central Technology Programme’ (ZTS) is the national, Saarland-based support programme for technology and innovation. It aims to encourage companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, to develop new products and technologies in order to remain competitive on a sustainable basis. Main lessons learned from the project

Possibilities for financial support for innovative projects

Public support programmes offering monetary support to finance digitalisation and innovation projects. Most of the funding is provided as a non-reimbursable grant of up to 50 % of the eligible costs.

The application takes time and structure

The criteria for a successful application can be large, and require Time and structure. The Saarland EDIH kANN company with its expertise by dIE complex funding landscape accompany and at the time of submission of the application: provide advice
